The 50th anniversary of the Chevrolet Camaro is coming to a head at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. Scheduled for August 20th, the Dream Cruise will take the spotlight as the center of the Camaro-related festivities. As expected the 50th anniversary Camaro will make its presence known as well.
The Woodward Dream Cruise will feature a tour of the Camaro’s plant in Lansing. Tours will last 45 minutes and Camaro owners and enthusiasts will be able to see where the muscle car is built and hear from those who do the hands-on work.
The Dream Cruise will also feature a Camaro-only parking area, food vendors, a heritage display, and 50th anniversary merchandise. For Camaro owners, “Camaros and Coffee” kicks off at the Joe Louis Arena parking lot on August 19th.
Following “Camaros and Coffee,” 2017 Chevrolet Camaros will lead the charge down Woodward Avenue. A 50th Anniversary Edition Chevrolet Camaro bearing Nightfall Gray Metallic paint will be the centerpiece of the showroom. Every 2017 Chevrolet Camaro will sport anniversary badging as well.
As for the Camaro’s namesake, when personnel were asked what a Camaro was, someone reportedly responded, “A small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs.” The Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang have been rivals ever since.
Here at Jeff Lungren Chevrolet, we’re happy to celebrate the Camaro’s 50th anniversary!
